Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are among the most toxic compounds known. That is why it is very important that we are aware of exactly how much of these compounds that are released into the environment. The EU has issued a directive on pollution control in the context of combustion.
PCDD/PCDF were never produced commercially. They are unwanted by-products which are produced by different types of combustion and industrial processes. Waste incineration is a known source of PCDD/PCDF emissions.
ALcontrol in Linköping is accredited for the analysis of PCDD/PCDF. The laboratory follows Swedish Standard / European SS-EN 1948-2/3: 2006.
When analysing very low compound levels, it is important that we at the laboratory are responsible for the purity of the sampler. The tests require extensive extractions and many cleaning steps. The final analysis is done by using high-resolution gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). The new EU directive stipulates a limit of 0.1 ng TEQ / cubic metres of waste incineration facilities. For waste water from the gas treatment, the maximum level is 0.3 ng I-TEQ / l.
ALcontrol offers:
- Preparations for the field test kits.
- Accredited analytical method in accordance with the standard SS-EN 1948.
- Analysis of the most toxic PCDD/PCDF congener, including the calculation of TCDD equivalents under I-TEQ, Nordic or Eadon.
- Advice and contacts regarding smoke gas analysis.
- Long experience of PCDD/PCDF tests.
