Contaminated land, waste acceptance and waste water

Accreditation
We are accredited to both ISO 17025 and MCERTS for soils, with a team of four full time staff employed in supporting and maintaining our Quality System. We were the first laboratory in the UK to be awarded MCERTS for soils, and all our methods are validated using MCERTS criteria and protocols.

Analysis
We offer all the standard parameters required for soils and waters, including:

• EPH and GRO, TPHCWG, PAHs, VOCs, SVOCs, pesticides, alcohols, herbicides, phenols, PCBs, glycols
• Asbestos, metals, anions, pH, alkalinity, ANC, sulphur, sulphide, cyanide
• BOD, COD, EC, TSS, TDS, TOC, dissolved gases
• WAC testing using two batch CEN 12457 methodology

Equipment/capacity
We have multiple instruments for all our major tests including:
• 7 x ICPOES and 4 x ICPMS systems for metals (soils and waters)
• 23 x GCMS liquid injection (PAHs, SVOCs, pesticides)
• 8 x GCMS headspace injection (VOCs)
• 31 x GCFID systems (TPH variations)
• 4 x Kone analysers (Cl, SO4, PO4, NO3, NH4, etc)
• 7 x HPLC systems (phenols and sulphur)
• 3 x Skalar systems (cyanides)

This instrument capacity ensures we can deal with very large projects, and can cope with the peaks and troughs of sample receipt, which varies from 400 to 1200 samples per day. Our cold store is calibrated to 4 +/- 2oC, and has capacity for 70,000 samples. We operate two shifts from 06.00 to 22.00, and have weekend cover to ensure no delays in scheduling and analysis.

Importation of Soils
ALcontrol holds a DEFRA licence for importation of soils into the UK, as we receive samples from the Africa, Asia, China, S. America, and most European countries. Please contact Customer Services or Sales for a copy of our licence.

Site Services
Our team of site personnel can provide assistance and advice in soil and water sampling, and will operate our own site meters to provide field data, including gas monitoring, if required.

On-line access
Our unique on-line portal, @mis, allows access to your data 24/7, and provides data export in a number of industry formats such as crosstab, AGS, Equis, National Grid, etc. Please contact Customer Services or Sales for a log in and password to access this system.

Couriers
We work in partnership with Echo couriers, who provide a bespoke service to Alcontrol, and samples are transported to Hawarden in a refrigerated trunker. Please ring 0845 1241715 for the ALcontrol service desk, or use the on-line access via @mis to order collections or containers.

Seminars
We have an unrivalled reputation within the industry for the free technical seminars we run regularly, either at Hawarden, or at hotel locations across the UK. The seminars cover sampling protocols, comparison of methods, understanding uncertainty, legislation updates, and an MCERTS review.
